Last Year’s Resolutions

December 28, 2012

Last year I made a list of New Years Resolutions. To be honest, I kind of set them aside and forgot about them, only remembering them every few months or so, so looking back at this list I realize there are things I didn’t focus on doing. I do want to look back at those goals before I set new resolutions.

Read at least one new book a month

I read quite a bit this year, but I definitely went through dry spells where I wouldn’t read for a few months. I would say that overall I read over 12 books though, so I’ll call this almost accomplished.

Get back to going to church regularly

This didn’t happen. There are many reasons why, but the biggest one was realizing I wasn’t really happy in my church. I have been doing some research and have found a new place I would like to try.

Apply for a promotion

Instead of applying for a promotion this year, I reevaluated my career and applied for a new job. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I love my new job and there is a lot of opportunity for advancement.

Get down to a weight that is comfortably below my goal weight

I failed miserably at this one. I am struggling to find the balance of loving my body no matter what weight I am at, and really getting to that spot where I feel comfortable. I am realizing it is less about the number and more about the way I feel.

Run a Marathon

Done! I ran a miserable and rewarding Oklahoma City Marathon in April.

Complete at least 3 things off of my Bucket List

Done! I ran a marathon, went to a St. Louis Cardinals game, and did a Relay for Life.

Travel to somewhere I’ve never been

Done! I went to St. Louis in July.

Cook at least one healthy meal a week

Not done at all. I have done pretty well recently, but it has not been once a week.

Work on getting out of debt

I have not missed any payments and have made progress on paying off some of my debt. It is going to be a long road, but I will get there.

Beat my 5k PR

Not at all. I have actually gotten way slower. I am working on building my speed back up.

Complete the 100 pushups and 100 situps challenge

No. There is no excuse, I just didn’t do it.

I hope I have more success with next year’s resolutions. Overall, I am happy with how my year has gone, even if I didn’t complete a lot of these resolutions.
